wordy wisdom: inspirational lyrics, pt 7

Every now and then a song comes along that strikes you so profoundly it stops you in your tracks and demands all of your attention. It was only a few days ago I heard such a song on the radio. From its swaying, lullaby-like intro through to its monumental, entrancing outro this song grabbed me in a tight fist and hasn't let me go.

This plea, this prayer, this poem speaks so deeply into my soul it arouses a full set of emotion from within me. When I listen to this song, I feel like turning up the volume, laying down and letting the music wash over me. I feel like crying, like praying, like singing, like shouting - like lifting my hands to heaven, like forsaking my surroundings and letting the Spirit fill me, convict me, change me, comfort me.

This song brilliantly captures the prayer my soul struggles to whisper - a prayer full of hope, and yet full of uncertainty. A prayer of doubt but also of trust. A prayer that recognises the saltiness ebbing, the loneliness of the spiritual valley, and the utter dependence of life upon the Provider, the Sustainer, the Healer - the Holy Shepherd - but one that also looks ahead to providence, to presence, and ultimately to the summer of deliverance.

The profundity of this anthem has enamored me so that I listened to it on repeat today for three full hours. My heart swells with its words and beats to its rhythm.

Download the song on iTunes or listen to it at YouTube.

Salt in the Snow / The Classic Crime // The Silver Cord

give me wings, give me peace;
these are the things that i need.
i'm tormented, broken and chained.
are You listening?
(are You listening?)

and give me shelter from the storm -
i know it's a lot to ask for,
considering how recent i piled
the dirt on Your name.

are You listening?
(are You listening?)
are You listening?

i have heard that winter's cold
will give way to summer's warmth.
oh no, like salt in the snow
i'm melted and left all alone
on the side of the road.

is this where i am for Your sake?
stuck between sleep and awake?
my mind is dreaming of things.
are You listening?
(are You listening?)

i took You for granted again
and threw You aside and pretended
for one minute that i had control of my life
and direction it seemed to be in.

i was wrong again.
(i was wrong again)
are You listening?

i have heard that winter's cold
will give way to summer's warmth.
oh no, like salt in the snow
i'm melted and left all alone
on the side of the road.

and i will wait for You to come again.
and i can't pretend like i'm confident;
and i can't pretend like it makes much sense
when it doesn't.

i have heard that winter's cold
will give way to summer's warmth.
oh no, like salt in the snow
i'm melted and left all alone
on the side of the road.

on the side of the road.

i have heard that winter's cold
will give way to summer's warmth.
oh no, like salt in the snow
i'm melted and left all alone
on the side of the road.
